Our history

Our story begins in 1929, when the first Japanese families arrived in the Amazon, bringing with them their values and practices passed by so respected ancient culture. Two years later, in 1931, japanese farmers created the 1st cooperative of vegetables, located in the municipality of Acará, business is considered a great challenge, since the market was small and the state does not have the habit of consuming such products.

In a few years, the Cooperative has maintained a solid trade waterway until the city of Belém, the capital of Pará, amplifying the intermingling of culture and introducing these vegetables and vegetables to the paraense cuisine.

However, after the second world war, the colony lived a process of great difficulties. With this, given the need to enlarge their productivity, farmers have introduced the black pepper on the plantation, contributing to the cooperative to become the first exporter of black pepper from Brazil, and the municipality of Tomé-Açú - where the fruit was cultivated - considered to be the "Black Diamond" of the economy in the Amazon, stimulating the economic development of the region in various aspects.

Officially Founded in 1949, the Cooperativa Agrícola de Tomé-Açu (C.A.M.T.A), lived another great challenge in the 1970s, when the cultivation of black pepper was threatened by disease and floods. Using the extensive knowledge of planting and to produce food that adequassem to conditions in the Amazon, the C.A.M.T.A has succeeded in creating a sustainable model practiced until today, from which it was possible to add other crops in the same building: the Agroforestry System.

Currently, the C.A.M.T.A has 131 members and records more than 1,800 small producers, with training programs and other projects that generate about 10 thousand direct and indirect jobs in the region of Tomé-Açu. In addition, always taking care of the highest quality in our products, we have machines of high technology that meets the requirements of national and international market, especially with regard to hygiene and sanitation.
